I am officially tired of 2020.

All of my travel plans have either been cancelled... or give the threat of travel.
The border remains closed. Provinces are not looking kindly upon out of province visitors.
I feel like I have nothing to look forward to... and I always have travel on my mind. Searching for seat sales, finding unique and inexpensive accommodations, comparing different day tours, googling images that you'll be encountering... basically obsessing over researching everything that your trip has to offer...
It's gone. Ripped away by a global pandemic.
My heart is broken.
... * insert sad face...
BUT... perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel.
What if the horrendous events of 2020 are just setting me up for something bigger.
Something better.
You may ask... "What's better than travel?"
Simple answer;
More travel. Longer travel. Forever travel.
... * insert happy face...
And so it has been decided. On April 1st, 2020... I will be leaving the comforts and discomforts of my hometown and off I will go.
My plan?
3 years. Around the world.
I will also be celebrating my 50th year on earth, which definitely warrants global exploration.
If I sell my apartment prior to departure, I may be able to travel for longer.
Today the saving and the preparation and the research and the reading and the planning BEGINS.
Goals...
To pay off all existing debt... except my mortgage because that would be impossible.
To save $80,000 or more.
To sell much of my crap in my house bit by bit.
To read a travel book each week.
To document my preparation along the way to departure.
To become published before I leave and hopefully, through this... gain a following for my adventures... if that isn't asking too much!
I would also like to lose 50 pounds... so had to include that in goals. Confidence is key!
And stop drinking... so much...
I will endeavour to cut back on useless spending, dining out, excess drinking...
This is definitely the hard part...
I also plan on having friends and family join me along the way... which could make or break parts of the journey... but would contribute significantly to the writing I plan to do along the way.
Today I begin my quest to leave Mission, BC behind me and throw myself in to the vortex of the planet.
Book of the day is The Yellow Envelope - one gift, three rules and a life-changing journey around the world. Seems fitting for Day #1, if you ask me.
Wish me luck...
